The City of Decatur is looking to hire an Urban Planning and Zoning Manager to oversee city planning, zoning regulations and development initiatives.
The full-time position pays between $90,000 and $116,000 a year. The manager will report to the city’s Economic and Community Development Director and lead the Planning Division.
According to the job posting, responsibilities include guiding updates to the city’s comprehensive development plan, reviewing development proposals and overseeing changes to zoning regulations. The manager will also oversee transportation planning through the Decatur Urbanized Area Transportation Study.
The position also involves working with developers, property owners, city officials and community members on planning and development issues. The manager will serve as the primary staff contact for the Planning and Zoning Commission and help present recommendations to the City Council and other local boards.
Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree in urban planning, regional planning, geography or a related field, along with at least five years of progressively responsible planning experience and at least one year of supervisory or team leadership experience. The city also requires applicants to obtain American Institute of Certified Planners certification within 18 months of being hired.
