Illinois farmers facing higher fuel costs are getting temporary relief during the fall harvest. Governor J.B. Pritzker has issued a state disaster proclamation and signed an executive order aimed at easing diesel expenses for the agriculture industry. The order directs the Illinois Department of Revenue and Illinois State Police to allow farmers to use dyed diesel on roads during the harvest season. Dyed diesel is typically limited to off-road agricultural use and is taxed differently than regular highway fuel. State officials say the move is designed to help keep harvest operations moving as fuel prices continue to strain farm budgets.
