Illinois and Chicago are joining a 25-member coalition of states, counties, and cities suing the Trump administration over the rollback of federal greenhouse gas limits for major power plants. The lawsuit challenges last month’s EPA decision to repeal rules requiring coal- and gas-fired facilities to cut emissions. Coalition members argue the move could lead to a sharp rise in pollution and worsen climate-related health and environmental risks. They’re asking the U.S. Court of Appeals to strike down the repeal and restore the protections. The case puts Illinois and Chicago at the center of another national fight over federal climate policy.
