The 41st annual Taylorville Chillifest is set for this weekend on the Taylorville Square.
The two-day event begins Saturday and continues through Sunday, with chili, live entertainment, vendors and activities for the entire family.
Chillifest features two International Chili Society-sanctioned chili cook-offs. The Saturday cook-off is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with public chili tasting from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The festival also includes a vendor market with more than 130 vendors, live entertainment on two stages, the Chilli Pepper Pageant and a free KidZone with activities for children.
The Greater Taylorville Chamber of Commerce says the Chili Tent will offer chili for people to eat at the festival or take home, including a drive-thru option.
The event is free to attend.
The Christian County CEO program will also have a student-run business at Chillifest this year. Students Grace Rogers, Molly Smith and Nora Thomas are selling lemonade through their business, Lemonade Rush.
The Taylorville Police Department is reminding drivers that street closures and parking restrictions are in effect around the Square for the festival.
West Market Street began closing at noon Friday, with additional portions of the Square closing at 4 p.m. Friday. The closures will remain in place through the festival and cleanup Sunday.
People attending Chillifest are encouraged to use parking areas and side streets away from the Square and allow extra time when traveling through downtown Taylorville.
