Illinois Families Encouraged to Apply for Energy Bill Assistance

Illinois families struggling with energy costs can now apply for help through the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program, known as LIHEAP. The program offers one-time payments for eligible households to help cover natural gas, propane, and electric bills. Payments are made directly to utility providers on behalf of approved applicants. State officials encourage families to apply early, as assistance is available only until funds run out. Applications open October first and continue through August thirteenth of next year. Families can apply online or in person, with eligibility based on household income and other program guidelines.
