MAROA, Ill. — Two teams entered Thursday’s match riding five-match winning streaks. Only one left with its streak intact.
Maroa-Forsyth swept New Berlin 25-19, 25-1, handing the Pretzels their first loss in six matches and extending the Trojans’ winning streak to six.
New Berlin entered the match 13-4 and had won five straight, including a 4-1 performance at the Ray Long Tournament. The Pretzels then swept PORTA/A-C Central, ending PORTA’s 10-match winning streak.
Maroa-Forsyth, which entered 9-10, had started the season 5-10 before victories over Tolono Unity, Olympia, Clinton, Illini Central and New Berlin.
The Trojans took control early, winning the first set 25-19. They then delivered the most stunning stretch of the night, limiting New Berlin to one point in the second set to complete the sweep.
The loss ended New Berlin’s five-match winning streak, while Maroa-Forsyth extended its own to six and continued its late-season turnaround.
