Christian County Animal Control is warning cat owners after a case of feline panleukopenia was confirmed in Taylorville.
Panleukopenia is a highly contagious viral disease that primarily affects cats. Christian County Animal Control is asking residents to watch their cats closely for signs of illness.
Symptoms can include lethargy, fever, loss of appetite and vomiting.
Animal Control officials are also warning that the facility is currently unable to accept cats because of the confirmed case.
Cat owners who notice signs of illness are encouraged to contact their veterinarian.
Officials are reminding residents to take precautions to help prevent the spread of the virus, particularly in situations where cats may come into contact with other animals or contaminated surfaces.
