Decatur’s Lincoln Square Theatre will become the backdrop for more than just a night of classic rock Friday.
The Sweet has announced that the band’s Decatur performance will be filmed for a live concert video expected to be released in the near future.
The band takes the stage Friday night at 7 p.m., with Tommy’s Rocktrip opening the show.
The Sweet is best known for 1970s hits including “Ballroom Blitz,” “Fox on the Run,” “Love Is Like Oxygen,” “Little Willy,” “Blockbuster” and “Action.”
Ahead of Friday’s show, Sweet bassist and vocalist Stevie Stewart told Decatur Radio that the band wanted to continue honoring the music and legacy of founding member Steve Priest, who died in 2020.
Stewart originally joined the group as a keyboard player and vocalist before moving to bass. He said the transition gave him a greater appreciation for Priest’s musicianship and the influence Priest had on the band’s sound.
That legacy also continues through the band’s latest single, “Sweet Dream.” The song was written by Priest and David Arkenstone and features Priest’s original bass and vocals, with the current members of Sweet adding new instrumentation and harmonies.
For the Decatur audience, Friday night’s concert will now offer something extra. Performances from the show will be captured on film and used for the band’s upcoming live concert release.
The current lineup features Stewart on bass, Ariel Kamin on lead vocals, Jimmy Burkard on guitar, Dave Schulz on keyboards and Richie Onori on drums.
The Sweet performs Friday at Lincoln Square Theatre, 141 North Main Street in downtown Decatur. Doors open at 6 p.m., with the concert beginning at 7 p.m.
