September is Library Card Sign-Up Month, and the Decatur Public Library is giving local families a few extra reasons to stop by and get a library card.
Throughout September, children under the age of 14 who sign up for their first library card will receive a free lanyard and cardholder while supplies last.
But the card comes with more than something to keep in a backpack.
A Decatur Public Library card gives residents access to books, movies, digital resources, classes and other programs offered through the library. Cardholders can also take advantage of streaming services and other online resources from home.
For children, a library card can be an easy way to encourage reading while also giving them access to activities and learning opportunities outside of the classroom.
The library has also become a place for more than checking out books. Programs and classes give residents opportunities to learn new skills, explore hobbies and take part in activities with others in the community.
