Decatur Public Library is getting a new piece of public art. The library will unveil a hand-painted mural on the outside wall of its Local History Room Monday, August 31st at 3 p.m. The mural was designed and painted by local artist Shannon Cook and celebrates the library’s 150-year history in Decatur. The artwork features images representing the library’s history, including its Carnegie-era roots, bookmobiles and more recent programs. The project was funded through the Illinois Arts Council’s America’s 250th Anniversary Public Art Grant. The public is invited to attend the unveiling at Decatur Public Library, 130 North Franklin Street.
