Gas prices are climbing again in Illinois and across the country. AAA reports the statewide average for a gallon of regular unleaded hit $4.33 Friday, up five cents from the previous week. Illinois drivers are now paying 89 cents more per gallon than they were at this time last year. Nationally, the average also moved higher, reaching $4.08 Friday, compared with $4.04 one week earlier. A year ago, the national average stood at $3.16. The steady increase continues to squeeze household budgets, especially for commuters and families preparing for summer travel. AAA’s latest numbers show Illinois remains above the national average.
