Governor J.B. Pritzker has signed three new measures aimed at better protecting Illinois children in foster care, schools, and abuse investigations. Senate Bill 3196 requires DCFS to work with the Statewide Youth Advisory Board on transition planning rules for young people aging out of foster care. Senate Bill 3510 strengthens child abuse investigation protocols and expands data sharing between law enforcement and medical professionals. House Bill 4534 reinforces boundaries between educators and students, increases transparency around school misconduct policies, and defines grooming as a form of abuse. All three laws are scheduled to take effect January 1st, 2027.
