Ameren shows how its lineworkers are trained in Decatur

Ameren opened its Decatur training center Wednesday, giving the public a closer look at how future lineworkers are trained to keep power flowing across central Illinois.

A new apprentice class took part in hands-on exercises designed to mirror the kinds of challenges they may face once they are working in the field. The training included real-world scenarios that help apprentices build the skills, confidence, and safety habits needed for the job.

Superintendent of Electric Training Ray Lawyer says linework plays a critical role in everyday life because lineworkers help keep the lights on and the power running for families, schools, hospitals, and businesses.
