A Decatur man remains in custody after prosecutors accused him of sexually assaulting two children.
According to Macon County court records, 58-year-old Laquania Wallace is facing multiple felony charges, including seven counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child under the age of 13. He is also charged with grooming and aggravated criminal sexual abuse.
Investigators say the case began in June, after the children’s mother reported concerning behavior to the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services. Authorities say the children later identified Wallace as the person involved. Court documents indicate Wallace was known to the children as “PopPop.”
Wallace was arrested on July 16 on South Side Drive in Decatur. Records show he has denied the allegations against him.
A judge denied Wallace pretrial release, meaning he will remain held while the case moves forward. He is scheduled to return to court on Wednesday.
