A 12-hour police standoff in Decatur ended early Saturday morning with one person dead and another person hospitalized.
The incident began around noon Friday, when Macon County deputies were called to a home on South Wyckles Road for a report of a possible shooting.
Authorities say when deputies arrived, they learned a 41-year-old man had been shot. He was taken to a nearby hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening. Officials say the victim later underwent surgery.
Deputies say the suspected shooter then barricaded himself inside the home, prompting a prolonged response from law enforcement. Negotiators were called to the scene as officers worked for hours to bring the situation to a peaceful end.
Illinois State Police also responded to assist Macon County authorities during the standoff.
According to ISP, officers later heard a gunshot from inside the home. When law enforcement entered, they found the suspect dead from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
No additional details about the suspect or the victim have been released.
The investigation remains ongoing.
