Governor J.B. Pritzker is weighing in after state Representative Harry Benton resigned amid unspecified sexual harassment allegations. The Plainfield Democrat reportedly stepped down last week following a report from the Legislative Inspector General. Pritzker says Benton made the right decision, adding that the resignation may prevent the report from being publicly released. Illinois House Speaker Emanuel “Chris” Welch says he asked Benton to resign immediately after receiving the findings. Benton, a two-term lawmaker, said in his resignation letter that the matter has put tremendous strain on his family, and he asked that their privacy be respected.
