The family of Sonya Massey is speaking out against the possible early release of Sean Grayson, the former Sangamon County Sheriff’s deputy sentenced to 20 years for her murder. Massey was killed inside her Springfield home in July 2024. Grayson, now six months into his sentence, is asking for release on medical grounds. In a joint statement, Massey’s family and their representatives urged the Illinois Prison Review Board to deny the request, saying accountability must remain in place. The board is expected to consider Grayson’s petition when it meets later this month.
