A bicyclist is fighting for his life after being struck by a hit and run driver in Springfield. The Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were called to the Starnes Overlook in the 1800 block of North Dirksen Parkway just before 4:30 a.m. Tuesday for a crash.
Deputies found a bicyclist in his 60s who had been injured and was unconscious with difficulty breathing. The victim was rushed to the hospital and is in the intensive care unit with life-threatening injuries. The cyclist was going north in the southbound lanes on Dirksen Parkway when he was hit by a white SUV that was going south. They said the driver fled after hitting the cyclist.
