Illinois turkey hunters have set a new state record, harvesting nearly 21,000 wild turkeys during the 2026 spring turkey season. This impressive number surpasses last year’s total of just over 18,000 birds. Jefferson and Jo Daviess counties led the way as top producers in the state, contributing significantly to the record-breaking total. Wildlife officials attribute the surge in harvests to favorable weather and strong turkey populations. The high turnout and success highlight the ongoing popularity of spring turkey hunting among Illinois outdoors enthusiasts, as well as the effective management efforts supporting local wildlife.
