Illinois residents can now file complaints against financial institutions more easily, thanks to a streamlined online system launched by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation. This move comes after an unprecedented surge in financial complaints, with over 244,000 submitted in Illinois alone last year—a jump of more than 120,000 from 2024. Nationwide, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau reported complaints more than doubled in 2025, reaching 5.6 million. State officials hope the new online process will provide faster responses and improved transparency for those raising concerns about banks, lenders, and other financial entities operating in Illinois.
