The Illinois Housing Development Authority is now inviting applications from local governments for grant funding aimed at revitalizing abandoned and deteriorated homes statewide. Through the Strong Communities Program, grants of up to $750,000 are available to help municipalities tackle problem properties, including efforts to demolish, rehabilitate, and secure vacant homes. Since the program’s launch in 2020, IHDA reports more than $22 million has been allocated, assisting over 1,800 properties across Illinois. Officials see this initiative as a vital step toward improving neighborhoods and increasing access to affordable housing. Applications for the current funding cycle are now open.
