Taylorville exploded early and never looked back Monday, rolling past MacArthur Generals 19-0 in a four-inning non-conference baseball matchup in Decatur.
The Tornadoes put the game away almost immediately, scoring four runs in the first inning before erupting for eight more in the second and seven in the third. Taylorville finished with 19 runs on 10 hits while taking advantage of three MacArthur errors and nine walks.
Taylorville Tornadoes dominated in every phase, while MacArthur managed just one hit all afternoon — a single from junior Luke Karunas, who finished 1-for-2 at the plate.
MacArthur struck out eight times offensively and never advanced enough runners to threaten. On the mound, Zion Bradford provided the brightest stretch for the Generals, tossing 1 1/3 scoreless innings with four strikeouts.
Elsewhere, Warrensburg-Latham Cardinals used a balanced offensive attack to defeat Cerro Gordo/Bement 12-2.
Nathan Southern led the Cardinals with a monster performance, going 2-for-3 with two home runs, three RBIs and three runs scored. Jayden Peck added three hits and two RBIs, while D. Waterhouse and Trenton Bridges each drove in a pair of runs.
Warrensburg-Latham collected 13 hits as a team and got strong pitching throughout the game. Southern struck out three over two scoreless innings, while Trenton Bridges earned the win after striking out six across four innings of relief.
On the softball diamond, Warrensburg-Latham Cardinals rallied late to knock off Arthur-Okaw Christian Conquering Riders 5-3.
The Cardinals broke a 1-1 tie with a four-run sixth inning and held on from there despite late pushes from Arthur-Okaw Christian in both the sixth and seventh innings.
Arthur-Okaw Christian was led offensively by L. Herschberger, who went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, while B. Herschberger added two hits and an RBI. Elsie Beever scored twice and also struck out six over four innings in the circle.
Warrensburg-Latham finished with nine hits in the win as the Cardinals continued a strong stretch heading deeper into the regular season.
