The Decatur Fire Department has been recognized by Camp I Am Me for a major contribution to local fire safety. Over 1,000 smoke alarms have been installed in homes throughout Decatur since 2018, thanks to a partnership with Camp I Am Me and the State Fire Marshal’s Office. Fire Inspector Matt Jones noted that the free installations help residents who may face financial or age-related challenges. These efforts provide life-saving protection, with Deputy Chief Brian Lockwood emphasizing that even small devices like smoke alarms can mean the difference between tragedy and safety. Residents can call Fire Station 1 to check eligibility for the program.
