A new partnership in southern Illinois is enhancing safety for neurodiverse individuals during traffic stops. Inklusion Community Inc., a nonprofit organization, has joined forces with the Metropolis and Paducah Police Departments to distribute autism seat belt covers at no cost. These specially designed covers easily attach to seat belts, signaling to emergency responders that the wearer may be autistic. Organizers hope the initiative will foster better communication and understanding during emergencies. Law enforcement agencies involved encourage families to pick up these covers to help make interactions less stressful for those on the autism spectrum and improve community relations.
