Illinois farmers brought their concerns directly to Springfield, as Gov. J.B. Pritzker and lawmakers hosted over 50 farm groups at the Capitol. State officials pointed to federal policies for squeezing producers with rising costs. At the gathering, Representative Charles Meier, a Republican from Okawville, urged for increased estate-tax exemptions, aiming to protect family farms from heavy tax burdens. Pritzker acknowledged support for the measure, stating he would sign such a bill if it reaches his desk. However, he noted that changing the exemption isn’t currently high on his legislative agenda, leaving farm families waiting for concrete action.
