Video Of Suspected Robber Who Took His Own Life Released

State Police have released body camera footage from a Mattoon officer-involved shooting on February 13th. Officers were responding to reports of an armed robbery when they approached 38-year-old De’von M. Coleman-Canady, found inside an SUV. The footage captures Coleman-Canady declaring he would not return to prison and expressing suicidal intent. As an officer reaches into the vehicle in an attempt to secure an assault rifle, the SUV’s passenger door is pulled shut. Moments later, a single gunshot resonates on the video. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting remains ongoing.
