State police are investigating the death of Ty Doolen, who died last Monday night while in Decatur police custody. Officers responded to a call about a distressed individual at a residence on East Corman Street. Upon arrival, they determined Doolen needed medical assistance and placed him in police custody to transport him to the hospital, rather than under arrest. During the process, Doolen reportedly resisted officers and then began struggling to breathe. Despite being taken to the hospital, he was later pronounced dead. Authorities are now working to determine the circumstances that led to his death while in custody.
