The Decatur Fire Department is enhancing fire safety for local homeowners by joining “Be Alarmed!”, a statewide initiative offering free, 10-year sealed smoke alarms and fire safety education. In partnership with the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance and the Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal, firefighters will visit qualified homes, provide fire prevention tips, and install up to three long-life alarms at no cost. This program is available only to residents of privately owned, owner-occupied homes. To schedule a visit or learn more about the program, homeowners are encouraged to contact Decatur Fire Station 1 at (217)424-2811.
