High school football players in Illinois will be hitting the field earlier in 2026. The Illinois High School Association has announced the first practice date is moving up to August 5, following a recent vote by member schools. The measure passed with 290 in favor, 245 opposed, and 67 choosing no opinion. Another key change requires players to complete 12 days of on-field practice before appearing in their first game.
