A federal judge has halted the Trump administration’s move to withhold over $600 million in Public Health grants affecting Illinois and other Democratic-led states. This decision follows a lawsuit led by Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul and attorneys general from California, Colorado, and Minnesota. The judge described the funding cuts as “arbitrary, capricious, or unconstitutional,” putting a temporary restraining order in place. Attorney General Raoul criticized the administration for “playing politics with critical public health funding,” specifically citing the negative impact on HIV tracking and lead poisoning prevention programs now safeguarded by the court’s ruling.
