Illinois has announced its participation in the World Health Organization’s Global Outbreak Alert and Response Network, known as GOARN. This decision links the state directly with an international coalition dedicated to tracking and managing disease outbreaks. The move comes in response to the United States’ earlier withdrawal from the WHO under President Trump, leaving states to seek independent connections to global health resources. Through GOARN, Illinois gains immediate access to cross-border alerts, a network of global health experts, and enhanced outbreak response tools, strengthening its ability to detect, monitor, and contain infectious threats in real time.
