SCOTUS Rejects Trump’s Bid To Deploy National Guard To Illinois
The U.S. Supreme Court is rejecting President Trump’s bid to deploy the National Guard to Illinois. The nation’s high court ruled that the government has failed to identify a source of authority that would allow the military to execute the laws in the state. The ruling comes after lower federal courts delayed the president’s troop deployment in Illinois. Governor Pritzker called it a “big win for Illinois and American democracy.” Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson said the decision doesn’t just protect Chicago, but protects cities around the country that have been threatened by Trump’s campaign against immigrants and Democratic-led cities.
