IDPH Issues Reminder To Take Steps To Prevent Foodborne Illness Over Thanksgiving
The Illinois Department of Public Health is reminding everyone to take steps to prevent an outbreak of foodborne illness over Thanksgiving. For safe turkey preparation, the first step is to safely thaw the bird. It takes about 24 hours for every five pounds of turkey to thaw in the fridge. People should wash their hands with soap and water before, during, and after preparing your food. Individuals should also use a food thermometer to check if the turkey and stuffing have reached a safe internal temperature of 165 degrees Fahrenheit.
