Trump Administration Asks For Voter Data From Illinois Elections Board
(Springfield, IL) — The Trump administration is requesting voter data from the Illinois elections board in an effort to remove ineligible voters from voter rolls. Capitol News Illinois reports that in a letter sent this week, lawyers from the U.S. Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division asked for a copy of the state’s voter registration database. The request is part of a federal lawsuit against the State Board of Elections by a conservative legal advocacy group. The suit claimed reports filed by Illinois for the two-years leading up to the 2024 election suggested several counties were doing a poor job of maintaining their local voter rolls.
