Illinois AG Suing Trump Administration Over Ending FEMA Program
(Chicago, IL) — Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul is joining a coalition of 20 states in challenging the Trump administration’s attempt to shut down a FEMA disaster mitigation program. The group filed a lawsuit in order to save the Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities program, which is designed to protect communities from natural disasters before they strike. The program was put in place after Hurricane Katrina. Raoul and the coalition argue that FEMA’s decision to abruptly terminate the BRIC program is in direct violation of Congress’s decision to fund it.
