Teen Boy Sentenced to 40 Years For Killing Pregnant Woman In Decatur
(Decatur, IL) — A teenage boy is receiving a 40-year prison sentence for the killing of a woman and her unborn baby in Decatur in 2023. Seventeen-year-old Mattarion Anderson was found guilty of murdering 20-year-old Janiah Thomas, who was 26 weeks pregnant at the time of her death. Authorities say Thomas and her four-year-old daughter were both shot in March 2023 in the 13-hundred block of North Woodford Street. The daughter survived. Mattarion and two others were charged in connection with the shooting.
