Longtime member of the Cromwell Media Group of Decatur and Retired Host of “Busboom and Wolfe” on NewsRadio 101 FM, Scott Busboom passed away Wednesday, February 26th surrounded by his family and close friends. He was 62.
Scott was a longtime broadcaster, working in the industry for 33 years. He had a passion for the industry, especially Sports Broadcasting and Local Talk Radio. He was instrumental in launching what was originally known as “Talk 101 FM” on WZUS, the first all-talk FM station in Decatur.
Scott’s greatest love in the industry though was Sports Play By Play. In 2013, he was inducted into the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame after broadcasting over 350 boys’ and girls’ high school basketball games and over 325 Millikin University men’s and women’s games for WZUS-FM.
In 2021, Scott was also recognized by the Decatur Public Schools Athletic Hall of Fame as a “Special Contributor to District 61 Athletics” after calling 1,213 games over his career. He was much loved by student athletes, and coaches alike.
Scott also had a love for serving his community, gladly giving countless hours of air time to local churches and charitable organizations and groups to help spread the news of “Good Things” that were happening not only in Decatur, but across Central Illinois.
Cromwell Media Group President and CEO Bud Walters remembered Scott on Wednesday; “For so many years, Scott was the friend in person and on the radio… in sports, in community events and in promoting Decatur. Our world needs more caring people like Scott Busboom”.
Scott retired from broadcasting on May 1st, 2022 and relocated to Alabama.
He will be missed dearly by all who knew him.
