Pritzker Signs Bill Eliminating State Grocery Tax
(Chicago, IL) — Illinois is getting rid of the state grocery tax. Governor Pritzker signed a measure into law that eliminates the state tax on grocery items. The one-percent state tax will be repealed across all of Illinois, although local governments have the option of imposing the tax on a local basis by ordinance. The tax cut will take effect January 1st, 2026.
