Accidental Overdoses, Suicides Up In Sangamon County
(Sangamon County, IL) – A new report finds accidental overdoses and suicides are severely up in Sangamon County. A new report from the county Coroner’s Office finds the rate of accidental overdoses and suicides reached record-breaking levels last year. The number of accidental overdoses saw a roughly ten-percent rise from 2022, while the number of suicides more than doubled to 48 in 2023. Coroner’s officials say fentanyl continues to play a major role in accidental overdoses in the county and more needs to be done to get the drug off the street.
