Illinois Man Sentenced In Capitol Riot Case, Still Facing Charges In Deadly I-55 Crash
(Sangamon Co., IL) — A Central Illinois man who pleaded guilty in the U.S. Capitol riot in 2021 is going to prison. Shane Woods of Auburn was sentenced to four and a half years behind bars. Woods was accused of knocking down an officer and tackling a member of the media during the riot. He is still facing charges in a deadly wrong-way crash last November that left a Skokie woman dead. Prosecutors say he made a drunken suicide attempt on I-55 in Sangamon County on November 8th, 2022. However, he collided with a vehicle, killing Lauren Wegner.
