No Cash Bail Begins Today In Illinois
(Springfield, IL) — Illinois is officially the first state in the nation to abolish cash bail. Beginning today, cash bail will be eliminated for criminal defendants awaiting trial. The change is part of the landmark SAFE-T Act. The Illinois Supreme Court upheld the law in July after dozens of states’ attorneys challenged it.
