Trial Underway For Man Charged With Shooting Decatur Police Officer
(Decatur, IL) — A trial is underway for a man accused of shooting a police officer in Decatur earlier this year. Joseph Williams faces multiple charges, including attempted murder of a peace officer. Authorities say Officer Stephanie Vail was attempting a traffic stop in the 900 block of East Clay when Williams jumped out and ran. The officer began chasing the suspect, who then shot her. Officer Vail took the stand yesterday after opening arguments.
