Durbin Receives Response From April 10th Letter Related To Justice Thomas
(Undated) — U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin of Illinois received a response to the letter he and other Senate Judiciary Committee Democratic members sent Chief Justice John Roberts. The letter urged Roberts to investigate reports that Justice Clarence Thomas accepted and failed to disclose twenty years’ worth of lavish gifts and luxury travel from Republican donor Harlan Crow. The response letter stated that the senators’ April 10th letter was referred to the Judicial Conference and forwarded to the Judicial Conference Committee on Financial Disclosure. Durbin says the Chief Justice has not responded to the request for testimony, which the senator says may be the only way to achieve a “credible reform.”
