Abbott EMS officially beginning operations, ribbon cutting planned
Abbott EMS will officially begin as the 911 EMS service for Decatur and Macon County on Friday, and a ribbon cutting is planned for next week to welcome them to the community.
Abbott will begin operation on Friday, October 7, transitioning from the former provider, Decatur Ambulance Service (DAS). A Chamber ribbon cutting to welcome our new ambulance provider to the community is scheduled for Tuesday, October 11, at 3pm. The event will be held at Abbott’s Decatur headquarters, 417 W. Wood St.
After a thorough search and review process, the City of Decatur chose to issue an ambulance license to Abbott EMS/GMR on August 15, 2022. Since then, Abbott has been working diligently and is now ready to complete the transition.
Abbott EMS will serve the community with six Advance Life Support (ALS) units and two Quick Response Vehicles (QRV) units. They also have access to additional units that may be necessary during peak times to ensure sufficient coverage of all of Macon County.
The City of Decatur would like to thank Abbott EMS and HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital for working closely to ensure no service interruption for our community. Additionally, we want to thank all members of the Ambulance Working Group for their assistance throughout this process.
