First Human Case And Death Of West Nile Virus In Illinois In 2022
The Illinois Department of Public Health is confirming the first human case and first human death of West Nile virus in the state this year. A person in their late 70’s in Cook County became ill at the beginning of this month and subsequently died. West Nile was a contributing factor to their death. Laboratory testing at the CDC confirmed the diagnosis of the virus.
