Champaign Planning Year-Round Homeless Shelter
The City of Champaign is planning to create a year-round homeless shelter. The City Council voted last night to spend nearly four-million-dollars on a low barrier shelter. The funding comes from the American Rescue Plan Act. The city will be leasing the old Habitat for Humanity resale store on University Avenue, which can house around 60 people. The shelter is scheduled to open November 1st.
