ISP Files Emergency Rule Change To Clear And Present Danger Reporting
The Illinois State Police is pushing for a change to the state’s clear and present danger reports and Firearm Owner Identification applications. The move comes in the wake of the Highland Park Fourth of July shooting that left seven people dead and dozens more wounded. The emergency law filed by ISP Monday would allow any previous clear and present danger reports to be used during a firearm background check, potentially preventing someone deemed “dangerous” from obtaining a gun. The Highland Park shooter was able to purchase a gun legally despite a clear and present danger report that was filed back in 2019.
