Illinois AG Settles Lawsuit With Peoples Gas Over Champaign Co Gas Leak
Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul is settling a lawsuit with Peoples Gas over a natural gas leak in Champaign County. A lawsuit was filed in 2017 after natural gas leaked from a Peoples Gas underground storage facility near Fisher into the Mahomet Aquifer and the private wells of nearby homes. Raoul announced a consent order that he says ensures that Peoples Gas is held accountable for cleaning up the gas leak and required to provide residents access to safe drinking water.
