Decatur Trades & Labor Assembly and the Decatur Building & Construction Trades Council, Operating Engineers Local 965, and Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 137 presented the Richland Community College Foundation Board a check for $10,000 on Tuesday prior to the RCC Foundation board meeting. These funds are designated to provide scholarships for veterans and their families who attend Richland Community College.
The two labor organizations, representing about 13,000 union members and retirees in Macon County, have collected these funds through a project called “Working Families for Veteran’s Education”. Union volunteers build shepherds hooks and sell them at the local farmers market. All the materials are donated by unions and businesses also provide discounts to the project.
