In a game heard only on Talk 101FM, The Millikin University Women’s Basketball team defeated Fontbonne by a 68-48 final. Millikin out rebounded Fontbonne by a 61-31 margin in the win. Alyssa Saklak led Millikin with 27 points and 17 rebounds in the win.
The NFL is hitting Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. with a one-game suspension for his actions in Sunday’s game against the Panthers. Beckham racked up three personal fouls, which were all involving Panthers cornerback Josh Norman. Beckham is appealing.
The Panthers say no one on the team taunted Odell Beckham Jr. with a baseball bat prior to Sunday’s game. A spokesperson says the defensive backs regularly bring a bat on the field during warmups for motivation. The spokesman said the tradition is “nothing new”.
Week 15 of the NFL season wrapped up with the Lions beating the Saints, 35-27, on “Monday Night Football”. Detroit’s Matthew Stafford threw three touchdown passes, while Drew Brees threw for 341 yards and three scores in the loss. Both teams are 5-and-9.
Veteran Raiders safety Charles Woodson is retiring after 18 NFL seasons. The 39-year-old says he will hang up his cleats at the end of the year. Woodson is tied for fifth on the all-time interceptions list with 65.
Andrew Luck will have to watch at least one more game from the sideline. Colts head coach Chuck Pagano announced Monday that the franchise quarterback will not be available for Sunday’s game against the Dolphins due to his abdominal injuries. Luck has missed seven games already this season. Veteran backup Matt Hasselbeck is dealing with a jaw injury suffered against the Texans Sunday. If Hasselbeck can’t suit up, Charlie Whitehurst will get the start.
Evgeny Medvedev scored the go-ahead goal with 3:13 left in regulation as the Flyers rallied to beat the Blues, 4-3, at Wells Fargo Center. Robby Fabbri [[ FAB-ree ]], Kevin Shattenkirk and Magnus Paajarvi [[ pay-ARE-vee ]] scored for St. Louis, which saw its three-game winning streak come to an end. The Blues battle the Bruins tonight in Boston.
Brook Lopez led the way with 21 points and 12 rebounds as the Nets knocked off the Bulls, 105-102. Jimmy Butler scored 24 and Pau Gasol netted 20 in Chicago’s third straight loss. Bulls center Joakim Noah had to leave in the third quarter with an apparent left shoulder injury. The Bulls visit the Thunder Christmas Day.
The San Antonio Spurs ran their winning streak to six games with a 106-92 victory over the Pacers. Kawhi [[ kuh-WHY ]] Leonard scored 24 points as San Antonio improved to 16-and-0 at home. Indiana’s Paul George scored a season-low seven points in the loss.
Missouri and Illinois will hook up in the annual Braggin’ Rights game tomorrow in St. Louis. The Illini have won the last two meetings and hold a commanding 29-16 edge in the all-time series that dates back to 1980.
